Rare Music Concert: Rachel Niketopoulos, natural horn & R. Larry Todd, fortepiano

Beethoven sonata for natural horn and fortepiano, Op. 17, performed on the Muzio Clementi Grand Piano (c. 1805) from the Duke University Musical InstrumentCollections. Rachel Niketopoulos studied horn performance at the Universities of Iowa and Missouri (Kansas City). After seven seasons with the Virginia Symphony and Opera, she joined the North Carolina Symphony in 2005. She performs regularly with the NC Symphony Wind Quintet and teaches horn at Duke University, as well as maintaining a private studio. She performs on both Baroque and Natural horns with North Carolina Baroque and the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, playing copies of horns from 18th and early 19th-century Paris.R. Larry Todd is Arts & Sciences Professor of Music and former chair of the Music Department at Duke. A leading Mendelssohn scholar, he received his Ph.D. from Yale University, where he studied piano at the Yale School of Music and with the late Lilian Kallir. His recording with Nancy Green of the complete cello and piano works of Mendelssohn and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel has recently been released from JRI Recordings.This concert is presented in association with DUMIC (Duke University Musical Instrument Collections).
