Lily Hirsch (Ph.D. 2006) publishes book on music in crime prevention

Lily Hirsch (Ph.D. 2006) has published her second book with the University of Michigan Press. Music in American Crime Prevention and Punishment (2012) is a "critical examination of the ways in which music is understood and exploited in American law enforcement and justice."

Calling Hirsch "one of the most subtle thinkers in musicology," Robert Fink of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music describes her book as "the first major intervention in what will soon be a thriving subfield of contemporary musicological study."

Hirsch is also the author of A Jewish Orchestra in Nazi Germany: Musical Politics and the Berlin Jewish Culture League (University of Michigan Press, 2010).
