Fall 2009 Auditions
The Department of Music offers a wide-ranging array of instrumental lessons and ensembles with outstanding faculty. Auditions are required for admission to these courses. For the full schedule, see below.
Note: Participation in departmental ensembles (0.5 course credit) carries no fee. Individual instruction is offered according to the following fee schedule:*
Fees per semester for lessons in 2009-10:
Class lessons (0.25 course credit): $116
Private lessons: $464/one hour lesson (0.5 course credit); $232/half-hour lesson (0.25 course credit)
* The applied lesson fee is waived for all majors in one area and for minors fulfilling their applied
music requirement. There is no fee for enrolling in an ensemble (0.5 course credit).
Signing up for Auditions: Sign-up sheets are posted outside the audition rooms for ensembles and private lessons, except for choral auditions (call 684-3898) and voice lessons. (Signup outside 075 Biddle, although auditions will be held in 019 Biddle.) Students are encouraged to sign up during orientation week. Unless otherwise noted, instrumental auditions are for Applied Lessons, Duke Symphony Orchestra, and Wind Symphony. Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, and Chamber Music auditions are listed separately.
