Joy Calico publishes Brecht at the Opera (U. California Press, 2008), the first full-length, systematic study of the artist's ambivalent engagement with opera.

Frances Hsieh (B.A. 2002) completes her second season as a violinist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. She received her master's degree in music and certificate in orchestra performance from the Eastman School of Music.

Chia-Yu Hsu composes new music with choreographer Keith A. Thompson and the Duke Dance Department.
