Collegium Musicum is Duke's early music ensemble. We specialize in music composed before 1750, including repertoire from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque. Have you ever wanted to explore the ancient music of the palace, cathedral, monastery, and town square? If so, Collegium Musicum is for you!
The ensemble is open to all instrumentalists and singers at Duke who have at least some performing experience. No audition is required, and no prior experience with early music is necessary. Email Max Ramage to get a permission number to enroll. Collegium Musicum counts for 0.5 credits and is graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis.
For Spring 2021, Collegium Musicum will be online. We will have virtual rehearsals and interesting conversations about the repertoire as an entire group plus short one-on-one meetings to help individual students with their music. All meeting times will be determined at the beginning of the semester to fit students' schedules. The class-time commitment is 1 to 1.5 hours per week. At the end of the semester, we will create a composite performance by recording ourselves individually and mixing the tracks together.
