March 11 - What Lies Within Us for concert band with narrator, text by the high school students of Santa Rosa High School and Ralph Waldo Emerson, commissioned by World Projects for the Santa Rosa High School Concert Band will be premiered in Carnegie Hall in New York City

 

2024

January - ALICE will be presented at the 2024 National Opera Association Conference with director Robert Breault.

March 3 - Listening for voice, cello, and piano (commissioned by Collective Euphonia) was performed by Duke's Julia Lehman (mezzo), Divya Srijay (cello), and Daniel Seyfriend (piano) in the Nelson Music Hall.

March 8 & 9 - Beyond All Walking for full orchestra was performed by the Dayton Philharmonic, Conductor, Neal Gittleman at the Schuster Center, Mead Theater in Dayton, OH

March 17 - Adaptations for solo piano (composed at Duke) was performed by Kristin Roach (piano) in a program entitled L'Amitié Franco-Américaine at the Atelier de la Main d'Or in Paris, Franch. It was the works French premiere.

April ALICE will receive its full orchestra premiere at the University of Utah (Robert Breault, director; Robert Baldwin, conductor) in their 2000-seat Kingsbury Hall with a full, SATB chorus.

April 12 & 13 - A.L.I.C.E., an opera in two acts was performed three times at the University of Utah with the U of Utah Opera and the Utah Philharmonic in their historic Kingsbury Hall in Salt Lake City, UT. The three performances included their first ever sensory friendly performance that included an intermission tea for audience members to meet the cast. April 13 & 14 - When the People for SATB choir and piano with text by Jim Haba was commissioned and premiered by the Triad Vocal Ensemble, Conductor Virginia Johnston for the 2024 Canticles for Life AIDS Benefit Concert at St. Joseph Church in Maplewood, NJ and St. Martin's Church in Bridgewater, NJ

May 18 - Scenes from A.L.I.C.E., an opera in two acts was performed at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI in their Stansbury Auditorium

June 7 - Inside for SATB choir and piano with text by Amy Scurria was commissioned and premiered by and for the Contemporary American Vocal Music Initiative by Dr. Jerron Jorgensen and the Choirs of Southern Oregon University at the Oregon Center for the Arts in Ashland, OR

December 6 - Scenes from A.L.I.C.E., an opera in two acts was performed at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas in their Lee and Thomas Beam Music Center

 

2023

January - Listening on a text by Amy Lowell was premiered at the University of Washington and Lee in Lexington VA. Commissioned and premiered by Collective Euphona, Scott Williamson, Founder. A video of the premiere can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/F5rE8eMKCQc

February - The children's book, I Love You, Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt (with sales totaling over 9 million copies) received its musical premiere at the Barinoff Theatre in Safety Harbor, FL (premiered by soprano Kelly Balmaceda and pianist Joshua Cessna) to benefit the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Music Therapy Program. March 5Katia on Mt. Unzen received a Chicago performance at the International Women's Day Concert in Chicago.

April 21 - Duke University (David Heid, director) performed "A Mad Tea Party" from ALICE as a staged scene.

Spring - the East Chapel Hill High School Orchestra (Conducted by Ryan Ellefsen) premiered the full orchestra version of Amy's work, La Loba, composed while she was a PhD candidate at Duke.

July - ALICE received its chamber orchestra premiere in Wichita Falls, TX at the Red River Lyric Opera Festival (Produced by Darla Diltz, Conducted by Kristin Roach, Directed by Grace Edgar, Choreographed by Christina Reaves). More information can be found here: http://redriverlyric.com/

Fall - ALICE won third place in the Professional Opera Division of the American Prize. The opera was presented at the 2023 Women's Theatre Festival with director Grace Edgar, who went on to direct the opera at the Red River Lyric Opera Festival. ALICE received its chamber orchestra premiere at the 2023 Red River Lyric Opera Festival where Scurria served as their first composer-in-residence. Produced by Darla Diltz and RRLO, Directed by Grace Edgar, Conducted by Kristin Roach, choreographed by ChristinaNoel Reaves.
 

 

2022
January - ALICE, An Operatic Wonderland (with text by Zane Corriher and Kelly Balmaceda) received its piano/vocal workshop premiere at the Maguire Theater of Arts of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City, NC. April - Amy's lucid dreaming experiences and her work on ALICE were included as an episode on a major podcast that received millions of listens. Hosted by comedian Kate Berlant, and produced by Vox Media. The episode can be heard here: https://podcasts.voxmedia.com/show/are-you-sleeping

June - Katia on Mt. Unzen on a text by Germaine Shames (about the life and death of Katia Krafft) was premiered in New York City through the Art Song Preservation Society of New York (Premiered by mezzo, Madison Marie McIntosh and pianist, Shaobai Yuan). September 23 - A Severed Chord with libretto by renowned actor Jeff Shankley received a concert premiere in Palm Beach, Florida to benefit the Gray Team and is now being developed into Amy's third opera, Delirium. 2020
Amy is currently creating a new opera, ALICE, An Operatic Wonderland, with singer and producer Kelly Balmaceda. She's also launched a radio show, Composer’s Studio, that features interviews with living composers. Previous interviews are archived.
