Gavin Lee is a music scholar whose work explores music theory, musicology, and queer studies. His edited volume Queer Ear: Remaking Music Theory received the 2024 Society for Music Theory Outstanding Multi-author Collection Award.
Lee earned his Ph.D. in musicology from Duke University in 2014. After teaching in China for nine years, he now serves as Senior Lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He delivered the keynote address for the 2023 Musicological Society for Australia and received the Elizabeth Wood Fellowship from the University of Adelaide in 2024. He currently serves as an editor of IMS Musicological Brainfood and holds leadership roles with the Society for Ethnomusicology and Indiana Theory Review.
