Duke Symphony Orchestra: "Senior Night"

Duke Symphony Orchestra presents "Senior Night" featuring the following works:

Modest Mussorgsky: Introduction to Khovantchina (1880)
Alexander Scriabin: Piano Concerto in F-Sharp Minor, Op. 20 (1896)
Otto Nicolai: Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor (1846)
Johannes Brahms: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 (1887)

Concerto Competition Winners - Lewis Zhu and Julia Zheng:

Lewis Zhu grew up in Shanghai, China, where he performed in various honor orchestras, as well as a string quartet that he cofounded. He has studied with Professor Wei Liang, formerly of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and is currently in Professor Hsiao-mei Ku's studio. At Duke, he is pursuing a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics and expects to graduate with a Distinction in Music Performance. He serves as concertmaster of the Duke Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Larkspur Quartet, which participated in the inaugural cohort of the Duke Arts Exchange with the North England Conservatory. Zhu has been invited to perform for the Trinity Board of Visitors and alongside the Ciompi Quartet. This season, he made his solo debut with the Duke Symphony Orchestra, performing Ralph Vaughan Williams's The Lark Ascending.

Julia Zheng grew up in Avon, Connecticut, where she began taking piano lessons with Sima Brodsky at the age of five. Since then, she has performed in various festivals and competed at a state and national level while making her solo debut with the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra in 2022 with the Haydn Keyboard Concerto in D Major. At Duke, she studies piano with Professor Pei-Fen Liu while pursuing a double major in psychology and statistics and a minor in Asian and Middle Eastern studies. In her free time, Julia enjoys painting her nails and playing violin in the Duke Symphony Orchestra.
