Candace Bailey (Ph.D. 1992) and Giuseppe Gerbino (Ph.D. 2001) are two of 37 scholars selected from a field of over 600 applicants.
Candace Bailey is Professor of Music at North Carolina Central University. Her NHC project is Women, Music, and the Performance of Gentility in the Mid-Nineteenth Century South (Mellon-HBCU Fellowship), under contract with the University of Illinois Press. Professor Bailey was a 2016-17 Fellow in the Franklin Humanities Institute's Digital Humanities Lab at Duke.
Giuseppe Gerbino is Professor of Music at Columbia University. His NHC project is Music and Mind in the Renaissance (Birkelund Fellowship). His book, Music and the Myth of Arcadia in Renaissance Italy (Cambridge, 2009), won the 2010 Lewis Lockwood Award from the American Musicological Society.
